Federal Report Examines Trulieve Worker Death in Massachusetts

A federal report spurred by the death last year of 27-year-old Lorna McMurrey, a worker at a cannabis production facility in Massachusetts owned by multistate operator Trulieve (CSE: TRUL) (OTCQX: TCNNF), found that “occupational allergic diseases” including asthma are “an emerging concern in the rapidly expanding U.S. cannabis industry.” Read more here.

Maine Regulators Say 42% of Medical Cannabis Contaminated

Nearly half of the medical cannabis commercially available in Maine is tainted with yeast, mold, pesticides, or some other contaminant, according to a new report from the state Office of Cannabis Policy. The office released a 49-page summary of its research and findings, which discovered that out of 120 medical cannabis samples, 50 failed state safety testing required for recreational marijuana. Georgia Awards Four More Low-THC Medical Cannabis Licenses

The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission on Wednesday awarded four more business permits, bringing the state total of licensed marijuana companies to six. The new permit winners include: Fine Fettle, TheraTrue Georgia, Natures Georgia, and Treevana Remedy. Read more here.

Oklahoma Moratorium

Oklahoma lawmakers extended a moratorium on new medical marijuana business licenses for two more years as the state tries to get a handle on the exploding industry. Leafology

An Arkansas marijuana cultivation facility was fined thousands of dollars Wednesday after state officials determined they violated a series of charges. Leafology walked away from the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Board’s meeting owing $10,500. Charges ranged from failure to keep odors under control, and failure to properly label and store medical marijuana in a safe or vault, among other violations. Read more here.

New York Regulators Reach Settlement ‘In Principle’ over CAURD Lawsuit

New York marijuana regulators and a quartet of service-disabled veterans who filed suit in August over the cannabis licensing system have reached a settlement deal “in principle” that may allow hundreds of licensed retailers to move forward with their business ventures, according to a letter filed with a state appeals court on Monday. Shinnecock Tribe Opens Cannabis Shop on Long Island

The Shinnecock Indian Nation has formally opened for business to cannabis consumers of all stripes on eastern Long Island in New York – as long as they’re over 21 years of age. The Little Beach Harvest dispensary had its grand opening on Wednesday, complete with a tribal ceremony and ribbon cutting before launching tax-free sales under the tribe’s Native American sovereignty. Mississippi Dispensary Owner Sues Over State Ad Restrictions

A Mississippi medical marijuana dispensary owner filed a federal free speech lawsuit against state officials, claiming they’ve wrongly infringed upon his First Amendment rights by prohibiting all advertising for MMJ companies. Read more here.

Cresco Loses Another $113 Million in Q3 as Revenue Slides

Tryke Sues Curaleaf Over Alleged $13M Price Change to Merger Deal

Multistate operator and cannabis titan Curaleaf has been sued over allegations that it wrongly changed the deal terms of a merger after the purchase had already closed. Three-state operator Tryke Companies, which does business as Reef Dispensaries, said in a lawsuit that Curaleaf wrongly tried to drive the cash price down by $12.9 million after the deal closed, with no justification for the change. Recreational Cannabis Brings More Tax Revenue than Alcohol in Michigan

Recreational marijuana is bigger than beer, wine, and liquor in Michigan. During the 2023 fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 30, the state of Michigan collected nearly $100 million more in recreational marijuana excise taxes than in fiscal year 2022, according to a House Fiscal Agency report released last week. Ohio Republican Legislators Willing to Push Back on Issues 1, 2

Ohio voters last week supported a constitutional amendment guaranteeing basic abortion rights and a law allowing the legal use of recreational marijuana. Jushi Still Awash in Red Ink Despite Trimming Losses

Rhode Island Marijuana Grower Fined $625k for Unregistered Products

A Rhode Island cannabis grower has agreed to pay a $625,000 fine and to yank a lawsuit it filed against the state, in exchange for permission to keep its business permit. Regulators found that Fire Ganja had 1,473 marijuana plants, 1,507 ounces of flower, 2,038 ounces of hash, and 276 ounces of concentrates, all without proper tracking tags affixed. Read more here.

Canopy Growth Could Be Writing a Turnaround Tale with Q2 Results

Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX: WEED) (Nasdaq: CGC) reported some improvement in its financials for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024, hinting at a shift toward hope for the struggling operator. A single batch of Armada Cannabis Co.’s Cannabis Apple Cider is being recalled because the products were not compliantly produced and don’t have the necessary ingredient to ensure shelf stability, the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency said. Canada Greenhouse Capacity

One after another, many of Canada’s largest cannabis greenhouses and indoor grow operations have been sold or mothballed as the industry continues to search for a supply-demand equilibrium after years of overproduction.
