Science & Research: Angela Pih, Statehouse Holdings
As the cannabis industry continues to grow and evolve, leaders like Angela Pih, chief marketer at StateHouse Holdings (CSE: STHZ) (OTCQX: STHZF), play an essential role in shaping its future. She was awarded the 2023 Green Market Report Women’s Leadership Award for Science & Research.
Since joining this industry four years ago, Pih has demonstrated her ability to navigate its complexities, build strong relationships, and foster innovation.
Pih’s journey in the cannabis industry began at Papa & Barkley, where she worked alongside co-founders Adam Grossman, Guy Rocourt, and Boris Shcharansky. She credits her time at the company for teaching her about plant medicine, solventless sourcing, and cannabinoid science.
She emphasized the importance of being “education first” and providing knowledge on how cannabis can be integrated into a wellness lifestyle.
“I was very fortunate to have really credible and committed passionate teachers about the plant,” she added.
After Papa & Barkley, Pih joined CannaCraft as the chief marketing officer, overseeing 12 brands within the brand portfolio. At CannaCraft, she had the opportunity to work closely with PhD scientists and lead scientific affairs.
Her roles have encompassed everything from ideation to product development, R&D, and bringing products to market. Pih believes that the cannabis industry is unique in its nascent stage, requiring a streamlined and collaborative approach.
Pih also pointed out the importance of balancing purpose and profit, a concept fortified by her current boss, Ed Schmults, CEO of StateHouse, and the importance of relationships in the cannabis industry, both personally and professionally.
“For me, that’s my pay off,” she said, “seeing great people move onto great companies and continue to grow this industry.”
Pih’s passion for innovation, commitment to purpose and profit, and ability to foster strong relationships have made her a driving force in California. Her success can be attributed to her leadership skills and ability to work with dynamic teams across various departments.
One of her most notable achievements was creating and launching CannaCraft’s first wholly-owned, cannabis-infused beverage brand, GEM + JANE.
The line of microdosed botanical beverages created “for women by women” is the only cannabis-infused beverage brand to be acquired by a nationally recognized, publicly traded company in the wine and spirits industry.
In general, Pih’s work in developing meaningful products and experiences for consumers and retailers alike has made her an influential figure in the rapidly growing market.
Her advice to her younger self and others with big ideas: “I would say, we succeed when people around us want us to succeed. ”
“It’s less about you and more about how you contribute together,” she said.
