Illinois recreational marijuana sales in the month of May increased from April by the barest of margins, according to data released by the state.
Cannabis retailers in the Land of Lincoln sold $132.7 million in marijuana last month, according to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, less than a $1 million increase from the $131.9 million in April sales.
The May numbers are also down from March’s high-water mark of $134.7 million in sales, but above the January and February of this year.
So far this year, Illinois dispensaries have sold a total of $647.9 million in cannabis goods, not including medical marijuana.
In 2022 by comparison, Illinois sold a grand total of $1.5 billion in recreational marijuana for the full year.
The Illinois cannabis market overall has taken a hit in recent months from neighboring competitors Missouri and Michigan, as well as declining prices and slower-than-anticipated opening of new stores.
